You might try to bring the size of the page & its contents down - I saved
your page locally to my hard drive and it totals 140KB, and that's without
the flash or the rollover buttons.

I'm guessing conservatively that it's around 200KB total, which is about 3
or 4 times the standard target for page size. People on a 56K dialup will
probably close the window or hit the back button. I noticed it even on a dsl
line with no other traffic on.

By way of example, sectionsep.png in 27KB (I know it's a gradient and as
such will be tricky to maximise for the web), and the same goes for the
footer image.

Sorry for the lack of suggestions!

Oz.

the .png is a total accident and for the most part been resolved, but there
are still a few that slipped through. you guys should have seen how slow it
all was before I realized what I was doing.

thanks for the criticism more would be helpful.

Brad:

Here's what IE booster (http://www.paessler.com) tells me -

Size of all images: 111.154 kB
Size of HTML-source: 16.913 kB
Size of whole page: 128.067 kB

The largest images on the page are

http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/Images/Banner%20Final/bnr2.gif at 15.5K
http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/Images/Separates/sectionsep.png at 27K (HUH?)
http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/Images/The-Latest-(Small-Box).jpg at 14K

The remainder of the images are 10K or less.

The Flash file is 419K. This means that your total page weight is ~550K.

Errrmmmm....

Brad:

You can do it yourself if you download and install the IEBooster thing at
the URL which I included in my previous post.

Anyhow -

Size of all images: 89.707 kB
Size of HTML-source: 58.158 kB
Size of whole page: 147.865 kB

and the SWF file is 48K (that's right - 48K). The difference could be that
the images are not moving as yours are.

I'm guess that "get rid of it" is not what you were looking for, so
nope.
I'm not a Flash person.

Perhaps the Flash forum would be able to offer some suggestions.

Brad:

You have to go search in your Temporary Internet Files (i.e., the browser
cache) to find them....
