It has to do with your database. You most likely do not have a table field titled '(the user name)' as the error message suggests.

You are right I don't....what I have is a column called 'user' which is what I
have queried against...what the error message is saying is that when I log in
as Freb Bloggs, I haven't a column called 'Fred Bloggs'
