Hi Alan, The answer is yes, I'm really looking to design my own golfing website, but I wanted it to be something "special". I initially went to GoDaddy.com, purchased the domain name and signed up to use their templates. Once I saw how basic they were I knew this isn't what I had in mind. I thought once I learned how to use this program that I could design other sites for myself in the future if this idea doesn't take off for me. ( once I do stumble upon the BIg Idea, as Donny Deutch would say , I'd be in a great position to run with it. Did you ever take the Lynda.com tutorials? The first 12 hours or so are just "the essentials", as they call them. Learning the tool and document bars etc. I haven't gotten to any actual applications. I almost want to skip right to it just to see what's on the horizon. To get some sense of where this is going. It's like learning about all the ingredients that go into a very very complicated recipe with no idea at this point of how it all gets pulled together to actually make the cake. I'm hoping at some point it will walk me through one of the templates. I've fooled around with one and I can't even figure out how to change the header size and such. This book I purchased on CS3 for Dummies is apparently a referrence guide. It's not walking me through anything either. I'm going to keep plugging along. I wish someone would say to hang in there it will make sense at some point !!!! |

What is CSS ? |

Ace, Hi, I'm taking your advice and am taking the 3 hour tutorial on HTML on Lynda.com. So far it's pretty straight forward and easy to understand. I don't see how this is going to help me all that much in Dreamweaver ( at least from the first 6 hours I've had in Dreamweaver), but since it's only 3 hours and seems pretty easy to at least grasp it can't hurt. What is CSS ? You said to learn CSS and HTML. Thanks for your help. |

Here's the REAL essential that Lynda doesn't tell you about - Learn HTML and CSS. If you do that, DW will be a snap. You can't just say it will be a snap when we know that even if you know |

You can't just say it will be a snap when we know that even if you know css well, some browser will come along and take out your css. I find it's difficult to know what is messing with your css. It's more like an onion and the more you peal away the more layers you find. Add to that the plethora of other things to learn and you have a fine mission in front of you: Html, ASP, SQL, CSS, flash, actionscript, Database Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, Word, ACcess, EXcel, UPS shipping structure, Javascript, vbscript, dot dot dot. |
