Thanks - that looks like the answer. I'll have a tinker with the pure-ftp config file and see what happens.

My Linux server is just there for testing - it's got php and mysql on it, and it's useful to be able to save to it directly from Dreamweaver so I can quickly see the effect of changes I've made. It's behind a firewall, so it's only available to me. When the site runs OK on the test server, I upload it to the real server via SmartFTP.

I would never automatically save to a live website - there's far too many errors in my code!

Isn't that implied by these steps?

Quote:
For example, I put index.htm to the remote server
Then I made a change to the local index.htm, and saved it.
On the remote server, index.htm is unchanged, and now there's a new file
called index.htm.1
If I save the file again, index.htm.2 is created, and so on.

Yeah, I admit that sounds slightly ambiguous. When I say Remote Server, I mean the location that Dreamweaver's Remote View points at. In this case it's a server on my private network, and not the server where the website is hosted from.

Captain:

So your local files are actually on a network shared drive?
