PS thanks for the replies so far, however I have tried these several times - As I say, occasionally after making a change, it works once, but then fails.

sorry to spam my own thread - but Andy's suggestion of restarting the machine seems to ave worked on a couple of machines and I'm about to try it wth the remainder.... bizarre !

However if this is the only problem - I presume it's a win XP problem only ? and whne should I be restarting if doing this again ? after creating the System DSN ?
