Well, after much frustration, I have come to the forum to see if anyone else has the "PUT" problem. And voila, there we go...a long dialogue on it. So, add me to the list of DWMX users with the same darn problem. It is very annoying to have to go to Explorer to upload files. This is definitely a DWMX problem and nothing else. It only happened when I changed from DW UltraDev to the MX. Let us all know when you fix this bug, Macromedia.

Here is my story.

Here is a break down of what I am experiencing. I have used DWMX for well over a year. I work in a intranet environment where I am accessing servers through the local/network settings when setting up my site definitions. I have had zero problems up until last week. Our IT department performed some security updates on my Win 2000 Server. Since this time I have not been able to update any sites on this server. When I attempt to upload a file I get the following error. ?An Error Occurred ? Cannot put filename.htm. The operation completed successfully.? I have been to google groups and have located other individuals that have experienced this same issue. I have tried several of the solutions suggested with no success. In my own troubleshooting efforts here is what I have discovered.
Focusing on what had changed I assumed that what ever the security updates had been done on the server was the root of the problem. However when I sign in on my laptop, same network, same sign on, same everything, I have no problem accessing the server in question and uploading files. But my two desktops will not perform as expected. I have no problem with my desktops when accessing other servers.
So I have narrowed down the question to this.
What has happened locally to my desktops that did not happen to my laptop that will not let me update my sites on the server in question?
My desktops are running clean images and have group policy shut off. This is very frustrating as I am sure you can imagine.
Any suggestion would greatly be appreciated.
I am running DWMX 6.1

Thanks
Brian Russell

Still have no clue on what is going on. I have an e-mail in to MM support and was suppose to hear something yesterday. Nothing yet. ??????? Anyone from MM seeing this. I would be happy with a "we don't know but are working on it"

Thanks

BKSTER:

If you want to hear from MM you'd better call them directly. This is not an
official communications vehicle.

Laura:

One person insists that this error is because the local and remote folders
are actually both under the same root folder on the server

So, the local files are in a folder in the same folder as the remote file
folder?

Do you have the problem when just uploading files without doing a synch?

The errors people are getting here seem to be that DW says "operation
successful" but doesn't actually do the put. I support people with the
opposite problem: When doing a synch, DW updates everything properly but
then displays an error message saying it couldn't do the synch, usually with
an access denied message. We have confirmed all permissions are set
correctly.

One person insists that this error is because the local and remote folders
are actually both under the same root folder on the server (over a lan), but
I'm not so sure this is the case. Other users encounter this error when
using two completely separate servers for local and remote. It seems fairly
isolated; out of several hundred developers, only a handful have reported
this problem, but it's causing them great inconvenience since DW doesn't
acknowledge a successful synch.

Has anyone had this error, and if so, do you know if it's a DW problem or
something that DW doesn't like about our server configuration?

Thanks,
Laura

The "local" and "remote" servers are separate folders, but on the same server -
thus under the same root directory if you go up far enough. However, the
problem turns out to be Dreamweaver and Samba working together - see my
previous post about permissions. Dreamweaver sends Windows permissions (makes
sense, it's on a Windows box) to a Sun server with Samba, which interprets
those permissions differently. A minor configuration change to Samba fixed the
problem, it was just very difficult to track down.
