After it started happening I went to MM site and downloaded 4.01 update.

Still keeps happening, though. Any ideas, anyone?

How are you inserting the table, and are you in layout view or standard
view? Also, since I'm sure Murray will ask this, ;-), do you have any
real time anti-virus protection running?
