Hey all,

I cannot reproduce this issue accurately and I really want too.

Can you post some sample files that reproduces the issue?

My other suggestion would be to contact us in Support, this way, we can work
with you directly, test files, find workarounds etc.. I would like to determine
if this is a bug or not. Once we figure it out, we can then post here so others
can be aware of the issue.

Alan,

As suggested, I just sent my contact details to support via
http://www.macromedia.com/support/email/complimentary/main.cgi?6140=6. Ticket
8409824.
I'm ready to work with you on determining whether this is a bug (I think it
is) and if so, what is causing it.

Kind regards,
Kris

Alan,

I have also opened a support incident with Macromedia with incident # 8408603.

The biggest problem is not being able to reproduce by following the same
steps. I even got a retail copy from teh support to try and did clean install
as per their instructions. The bug still happens on a vanila install without
any custom extension installed.

The best I can tell you is as below:

1) The bug only happens when you start working in the code view. As long you
don't write any piece of code by switching to CODE view you will not see this
bug.
2) The bug is seen when working with ASP VBScript templates for me. It may be
happening with other Server Side technologies but it does not happen on
template files based on flat HTML code.
3) The bug happen when editing templates as well as files based on templates.
4) Create a dummy site (maybe based on DW8 tutorial site that came with the
installer) and create a template. Copy some HTML code from the tutorial site in
small steps. Intermittently save your template. Don't save after each copy.

If we are luck, you will hit this bug. DO copy code above the DOCTYPE into the
<% %> area where all the server side ASP code goes. Like put a SSI include.
Also try adding code into the NON-EDITABLE sections of the template and see
what happens when you switch your view from CODE to DESIGN without saving the
file and then try to save the file while in DESIGN view.

I can fully confirm what Amit is saying. It happens when you start working in
Code View. It looks like as soon as the internal DOM needs to be refreshed
(because you click Refresh, or you switch to Design view, or because you Put
the file), the error appears. Today, I only needed about 15 minutes of working
when it happened again. Unfortunately, as mentioned before, it is not really
reproduceable: if I exit DW8 at that point, open it again and do the same
action (i.e. that latest change to the code, just before the error occurred),
typically it does NOT cause the issue, but it will happen again 10-30 actions
later.

I also have am having the same problem with .cfm files based on a template
created in mx 2004. I am in split view when it occurs. It is intermitent and
unpredicable. I will make a change in the editable region and get the error
that I have made a change to code that is marked not editable. It will not
allow me to make the change.

Very frustrating.

I have justed closed a string on this site as well where I had the first issue
of editing template code and getting the outside of editable region error. The
suggestion in the string seems to work for this issue.

jimatjude,

I guess you are referring to
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=189&thre
adid=1057169. Great that it solved your problem, but in my case, the checkboxes
Code Format > Override case of: are both UNchecked, so it doesn't solve my
issue.

Has this question been solved? I am having the same problem with my .asp site and can't really work on the site at all because of it.
