it is hard to beat projectsevens tree menu, it is simple to use. but

you could try
http://www.fourlevel.com/product/minimenus/index.htm

fourlevel have been around for years and I have tried all these extensions.

when ever i needed support I found I got it within 24 hours too.

Hello! I'm looking for a navigation menu that can hold a lot of
information,
hierarchical, and hide it as well, something intuitive for the user, and
vertical so I can place it on the left. I like what project seven does,
but I
don't want to pay $90 for, it, $45 I would pay. Anybody know of something
like
this, less expensive or free?
