Rename your include file's extension from .inc to .html and see what
happens. You can add .inc to the list of recognized files using DW's EDIT |
Preferences > File Types....

I'm trying to figure out why Dreamweaver's "Insert" menu shows all of its
functions greyed out when I load an include file (with a .inc extension)
for
editting in Code view.

It's pretty standard practice for Web developers to use include files to
copy
in common code into Web pages using the #include directive. Why doesn't
Dreamweaver recognize these files as HTML files and allow me to drop in
HTML
tags using the Insert menu? Can I fix this?

Chris

Thanx for the tips Murray. Unfortunately, changing all INC files to HTML
extensions is not an option at this time in an orginization of 5,000 people,
and 1,000s of Web pages, controlled by many different groups. Besides, INC
files should already be recognized by Dreamweaver as files that probably
contain HTML code. I don't have this problem with .HTML, .SHTM, or .ASP files.
I don't have this problem with HomeSite 5.5 + with any extension.

.inc is already in my File Types.

There seems to be something in Dreamweaver that recognizes only certain file
extension that "qualify" for inserting HTML code through the Insert menu. I'm
not sure this makes any sense. I should be able to use these functions on ANY
file that can be opened in Code View.

So, still looking for a reasonable solution to my problem, if there is one!

Regards,

Chris
