Ha! Sorry. The one about how do I get rid of something and then import it!
When you refer to "this" site definition, are you talking about a hidden one I
can't seem to find? Or am I exporting the definition then importing the exact
same one? (Which, FWIW, I tried, but it didn't change anything.) Thanks so
much!

In Site manager, select the site about which you are speaking. EXPORT its
definition. Then REMOVE the definition. Then IMPORT it again - the exact
same one. This forces DW to rescan all the files, and rebuild all of the
support information.

If that fails to do anything for you, then I cannot imagine how things got
so screwed up for you. I recommend you contact Adobe directly and use one
of your one-on-one support incidents.

Alas, it didn't work -- but thanks for trying. I'll open a ticket now.

FWIW, my confusion with the instructions was based on the fact that when you
hit "remove" in Sites Manager, the alert box says something like, "are you sure
you want to do that? Removing your site is irreversible" -- implying that the
"remove" command will trash your whole site (not just the definition). I
backed up my whole site onto CDs before holding my breath and hitting "remove"!

Thanks again :smile;

OK, tried many many things, here's what finally worked in simplest terms!:

-In DW Manage Sites, exported and then removed the site definitions for the
"broken" site (did not end up using old site definitions but wanted them as a
just-in-case backup). Closed DW
-NOT in DW:
*created an empty, untitled folder on my local server with a blank
test.html doc inside
*opened the old site folder and the new unnamed site folder
*copied and pasted root-level HTML files from the old folder to the new
*moved all other root-level files and all folders from old site folder to
new
*deleted old site folder
*re-named untitled folder with a new site name - do NOT use same name as
old root folder
-In DW, created a new site. In Manage Sites, typed in all settings from old
site and set new root
-Allowed DW to create new cache
-Closed DW

Things are working fine this morning; I just need to go re-set 2 other
machines to the new root. This relatively easy fix took a week to figure out,
so let's hope it's permanent!

Happy day, all.
