You can't. And for a good reason, too.

1. If your pages already have content and layout, then all of that content
and layout will be placed in the single editable region of a one editable
region template.
2. If your template has more than one editable region, DW would have no way
of knowing which content to put where on any given page.

How does one apply a template to a whole website?

I can only seem to apply the template to individual pages.

I preped my whole site by removing everything but the <body> content.

There should a batch conversion option to take care of this.

It would be the same as attaching the dwt to a single page.

Unfortunately, there is not. However, you could sneak in the back door by
doing a creative Find and Replace.

Although if you have removed all content from the body of the pages, why not
just bang out another however many pages from the template and
systematically save them over the ones you already have?

I've never used Commands, but is it possible to do some sort of Batch
processing with them, a la Photoshop's Automate? At the very least, you
could create a Command, map the command to a simple shortcut key, and
then just whip through the process by applying the command to each page.
Sure, it still isn't a batch command, but you are only hitting one key,
instead of having to mouse up to find the Apply template, applying
template, saving, and closing.

But that's just speaking as someone who is familier with photoshop's
features in this respect, and not Dreamweaver. Murray can confirm or
deny whether this'd work.

Hi mortgage-pro-seo and Tron,

It's possible to do a few things.... 1. Backup your menus.xml file first,
and then move the Apply Template to Page command to a more convenient
location in the menu structure.

2. Creative Find and Replace could do the trick. (Make backups first.) As
long as the template is referenced in the file (that is, the template is
attached), you should be able to do Modify> Templates> Update Pages...
(Disclaimer: I haven't tried this method but it works in my currently sleepy
brain's theory :-))

3. (Shameless plug to follow You could purchase the Template-Lover's Suite
3 in order to put the Apply Template to Page and Update Pages commands
within easy reach via the Template-Lover's Suite toolbar. $18, For more
info: http://www.dwfaq.com/store/detail/?id=faqTmpLvrs

I haven't used PhotoShop in ages, so I can't comment on if the suggestion
would work. I can say that an extension to do batch application is possible,
but it is a huge undertaking to cover all the possible scenarios.

Hope this helps,
~Angela

I'm really having trouble understanding why (if all the body content has
been removed) a simple (and reliable, and very safe) spawn and save process
wouldn't work. As I said earlier, just bang out the number of pages you
need, and overwrite the existing ones.

What exactly is a spawn process? More info: I was faced with a bloated 200
page site created in FrontPage. I have since learned about web standards and
proper xhtml and CSS. So I wanted to update the site to make it accessible and
W3C compliant. So I created a new web and deleted all html (font tags &amp;
other depreciated junk) except the main body <p>content</p>. I then created a
dwt template. I simply wanted to apply the template in a batch process. I
could not find that solution so I attached the template to every page by hand.
Good Times!
