Dr. Newton,
As an intermediate newbie, I can concur with the advice given about learning
HTML and CSS, always working in design and code view. I wish I had all this
advice and this helpful forum when I started. Instead the first advice I
received from a tutor was that I didn't need to know HTML to use Dreamweaver.
And then I took a course at a local design college and I can't say what it
was...not really HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver or design concepts...really bad.
One other piece of advice with the overwhelmingitis that is common...if you
are trying for one type of site and one set of design goals then do what works.
You are not trying to learn lots of options and design options like someone
working to become a professional would be. You can add options and beneficial
things as you build your skills. It's a lot more fun that way. Launch a working
site and then keep a site in development and refine with your advancing
skills...launch that and so on.
Of course, practice, practice, practice...even repeat things like starting
from scratch every now and then to remind yourself of the basic steps. Don't
let too much time go between practice sessions, I did a lot of relearning when
I let too much time pass.
Glad you are found this forum of helpful people giving sound advice. I know I
appreciate having found it.
