So if it uses page content and it looks at your default page for your website which has say a big flash image but not really any text could you keep typing all your keywords in on that page and then change the text colour the same as the background so it can't be seen thus resolving the problem and making your page very highly recognised.

cause for losing one's rankings.

I would urge anyone who is producing websites for money to take time to
understand at least a little of this subject - enough at least to realise
how much you don't know. The same questions come up again and again -
meta-tags, hiding text, submitting your site every month - this is spammy
stuff that might have worked five years ago...

Steve if your saying forget about meta tags then what is the best way to get your webpage picked up by search engines. The front end of my site has a flash image and noithing else on it. Once this has loaded it takes you into the site where very little flash is used. I don't want people to pick these other pages up with a lot of text on them as I want them to be referred back to the begining of the site when they come to look at it. So how can I make this page more search engine friendly?

Twicki:

It's all about page content and location of content on the page. Meta tags
are almost useless.

If I understand what you are saying correctly, you have a Flash index page
which takes time to load and you don't want people to come into the site on
subsidiary pages. This is about as SE-unfriendly as you can get, but it
depends on what you want.

All those pages with content on your site are the value - not the Flash
image at the beginning - and unsurprisingly the search engines tend to see
it that way as well. There are certain things you could do given your
stipulations - like trying to redirect link popularity to the index Flash
page, but to be honest, they would be cosmetic.

If you don't wish to change your site at all, I would seriously consider
Adwords on Google, or similar on other search engines, for the areas you
wish to target.

Dan's list is a pretty good one - then hang out at some good forums.

Spider-food used to have a good one for beginners but I'm not too sure how
active it is these days.
Cre8asite is good and Webmasterworld is the biz once you have a bit of
knowledge under your belt.
