That's fine. However, you can NEVER have total control on the web.

The default excuse for bad websites.

Then make a PDF.

In fact you don't have any control in the web, all you can make are
suggestions and recommendations, it's up the the user agent if it will
follow or not.

don't worry bmargolas.
These guys don't know you and them are not doing the same job at all.
They have no notion whatsoever of what your concerns are.
I constantly run into barrage of the same kind here because I'm a
designer as well (and not a "designer" for corporate sites, a real
designer).
I've used the full-creen feature many times before, and for my clients
and in my context, it's perfectly appropriate, even necessary.
I've also used fixed sized popup windows (ah ah!) all the time.
And removed the doctype in order to vertically center my page using the
100% height table attribute (ah ah!).
All practices that are not appropriate in the buziness context, but that
are perfectly fine in the art context.

Never mind if both worlds naturally don't understand each other.

If it's for an intranet where the web environment (which browser is used,
Javascript on/off, pop up windows etc) can be highly controlled then I'd
agree with you.

If it's for the web at large then I do not agree.

I guess I can't see where your coming from saying that there is absolutely no place for something on the internet.

Perhaps you're misunderstanding my point :-)

I'm merely suggesting that trying to control someone else's browsing
experience to suit your design (via forcing full screens etc) is not a good
practice on the web.

John:

It's tantamount to making the visitor fit the site instead of the other way
around. The sharp developers (in my experience) fully understand the
importance of the latter approach.

I fully agree that in some cases it's not a good idea. But there are places that people browse to experience other peoples visions, and I see nothing wrong with the practice.

As long as it's in a popup window it's fine. If it's the main browser
window it's rude. You change the size when I come in, but you don't change
it back when I leave. That's rude.
