Default Pure CSS Pictures Gallery - work in progress ;) - 08-02-2004 , 03:01 PM

I'm working on something and I'd like to know how the technique behaves with
different UAs/platforms.
I already know about IE5/6 Win, FireFox 0.8, Mozilla 1.4, NN6 and Opera 6.05

Any Mac browsers would be *great*.

TIA,
Thierry

I concur. Safari is catastrophic.

IE is not bad, but I get a huge vertical scroll....

I wish his HTML code wasn't crunched up on 3 lines like that. The people here
could possibily improve upon his work; make it more suitable for Safari that
is...

But since its all crunched up, I'm too lazy to de-crunch it. :-)

Here's more behavior:

Mozilla 1.7 - Good
Firefox 0.9 - Good
IE6 - Good
NN7 - Good
NN4.x - Graceful degrade

Thats a shame about Safari.

I guess the solution (for Safari) lies more in the CSS than in the markup
(even though I just added a structural hack to it -crossing my fingers
hoping that it fixes the "problem"). I'm already using 4 different branching
techniques for my styles, I can't afford to change that markup to please one
single browser (unless of course it does *not* impact the other ones).

I was also curious if the behaviors (onmouseover/onclick) worked fine on Mac
browsers(?).

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Hi Murray,
Do the behaviors work? That's my big concern.
I guess the DIVs that don't show around the 1px border frame (to hide
scrolling images) could be fixed.

Thanks,
Thierry

Ooops, I forgot to mention that there were 2 "behaviors" to check:
- when mouse hovers the thumbnail (a DIV containing a bigger pic should
popup),
- when clciking on the DIV that "should" popup (a popup window containing an
even bigger pic should open - including the title of the pic)

Thanks again,
Thierry

Thanks Dan,
The IE5 pic is corrupted but atleast I have an idea of what's going on in
Safari.
Does the behaviors (onmouseover, onclik) work or fail in *Safari*? BTW, I've
made a small change, could you check again in Safari?

I have a very old Mac and I can test with IE5 but I don't get the huge
"vertical scroll" that Murray's talking about...

Big thank you again for the pics,
Thierry

The onMouseOver and onClick associated behaviors work in Safari 1.0.2, but
the mouseover image progressively moves higher on the page until it flies up
it's own ... oops, I am confusing this with the whiffle bird....

Interesting, it seems that Safari has the same "bug" as IE5 (Win & Mac) when
it comes to position nested SPANs elements.
Instead of being AP in relation to the parent element (for which a position
declaration exists) it "follows" the DIV in which it is contained.

I will apply the same workarounds I used for IE5 as soon as I find a CSS
branching technique for Safari.

Thanks for the feedback Murray,
Thierry
