Default Problems viewing site on Windows - 11-09-2004 , 02:24 AM

I am a beginner web designer and have designed the site
http://www.surfmaroc.co.uk and am having problems getting the layout to work in
certain PC environments. What can I do to start problem solving this? My
client is the only one who can test it which is causing me major headaches! If
anyone could advise me I'd greatly appreciate some help. Rob

WARNING!
This site resizes your browser window.
--------------------------------------

You might get more response if you gave us a hint as to what
specifically are the problems your client is seeing.

Working with no information, I suspect that the problems are caused by
differing text size between your system and the client's. You have
designed your page in Fireworks and allowed Fireworks to create the
HTML. The result is an exceedingly complex table structure littered with
row- and colspans that make the size of any given table cell affect the
size of several, or many, others. If the content (like text) of a cell
exceeds the size of the cell which contains it, the cell will expand,
pulling several other cells along with it. This will cause parts of your
page to separate like an Antarctic ice shelf. Try it yourself. Use your
browser controls and enlarge he text.

Thanks for the response James,

You are right, both the complexity of the table layout created using FW and
text size are the cause. I can replicate the problem the client is experiencing.

Aside from a complete redesign, what would be the best approach for resolving
this?

Thanks for the advise.

Rob

I'm afraid the only good answer is a complete redesign. Use Fireworks to
make your graphics only, and use Dreamweaver to make your HTML. You will
have to learn some simple table-building skills, but it is knowledge
that you will be able to draw upon every day of your life. Perhaps start
with the tables tutorials at:

Thanks James for the advice, eventhough it's not easy it will help me in the long run.

I appreciate you taking the time to support me.
