Default Problems since Studio 8 intall - 11-07-2005 , 08:21 PM

Ever since I installed Studio 8, I've had a problem Acrobat trying to paste
everything I copy-and-paste as a PDF document. As an example, I'll copy
some text from one document (within MS Word) and try and paste it in another
document only for the PDF icon to appear instead. This is extremely
frustrating as I cannot find a way to stop this behavior shy of uninstalling
the darn product!

Since Adobe bought Macromedia and this is cropped up since the install, I
figured I post here and see if anyone else has had the problem.

Thanks in advance.

That's a new one on me. I have never seen it posted here, and have not had
the problem myself....

While Adobe has purchased Macromedia, the companies have yet to consolidate their operations.

You might want to check over on Adobe's Acrobat forum.

I use DW8 and Adobe Acrobat on windows xp pro and am not seeing that
problem - and I don't see how DW could affect any workflow from MS Word
to anything EXCEPT Dreamweaver.

What app are you pasting into?

While I know that the two products are independent as of yet, this began
immediately after the install of Studio 8. I also installed Coldfusion
Reports as well. Both the Adobe Acrobat icon and Flash Paper icon are in MS
Word and I cannot remove them. I customize the menu, save a normal.dot file
and yet they both appear again.

Now I'm assuming the icon is PDF but it does have the small mail graphic on
it. To me, that means that it's a "save to PDF and email" icon. This is
again something new that showed up.

Thanks guys!

If you are using the stand-alone version of Acrobat 7, you can uninstall that
toolbar. If you are using Acrobat as bundled w/ CS2, you'll need to change some
registry keys. The Acrobat forums on Adobe's site have the info to do it.

I tracked down the dll's, the registry entries and the .dot files
responsible. The PDFMaker.dot file for Word and the PDFMaker.xla for Excel
were both created on 11/3/05 and at 10:36am. This matches my Studio install
within just a few minutes. The evidence is pretty clear that something was
changed with regard to the PDFMaker at that time. Funny thing is, I have
two instances of PDFMaker (the icons) in Excel (one old set and one newer)
and I'm assuming that they came over with the Flash Paper install since they
occur together and with nearly identical looks.

No big deal at this point since I've removed the template files (.dot and
..xla) and things are working just fine now. I will mention that the new
icons remain in Excel while both have disappeared in Word. While in Excel,
I could customize the toolbar by removing the Flash/PDFMaker icons and
they'd be gone for good. In Word on the other hand, they would reappear
each time I opened Word! Very frustrating but like I said, I've killed the
files and the problem has gone away.

Thanks folks!
