Default Problem viewing ASP pages - 05-20-2004 , 02:11 PM

Since upgrading to DMW-MX2004, I cannot view any of my ASP pages.

From within Dreamweaver, when I view using <f12>, I get an Internet Explorer
page error:
stating that "....the ODBC driver/Jet database engine cannot open the file
'(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need
permission to view its data."

Well neither of those 2 cases apply, and from with Dreamweaver, the
datasources test OK and display all expected records!!

Another thing is that if I access the site away from Dreamweavr, using
Internet Explorer by itself. I get the HTM pages OK, but when an ASP page is
called, it just displays the ASP source code.

Are these connected?

My environment is IIS, IE v6.0.2800.1106, Windows XP pro., MX Studio 2004,
ColdFusion 6.1

Can anyone please tell me what could be going on?

Regards, Alex

After more hair-tearing, I managed to sort out part of the problem. The error
msg. was right after all. After my upgrade to DW2004, I joined a network
domain, which somehow affected existing users/permissions. As I was using the
default "IUSR_computername" user, I checked & found that I needed to assign
full control to the DB file & its containing folder. So that now seems to work
OK.

The other thing that came out in the wash, is that if you transfer files
between computers via CD (as I often do), then you need to remember to change
the default setting of "read-only", else you get messages from DW saying that
pages have been updated outside DW etc. and unless you are aware of this - it
gets very messy when you try to view changes via your browser.

I'm still unclear as to why I can't view my site from outside DW, using IE, as
ASP pages still get displayed as source code. I've tried switching file
associations between DW and IE - but that has no effect - so any help there
would be appreciated.

Alex

I am not sure if anyone mentioned this, because this is the only message
i have (so i dont have the other replies).

You have to make your machine a local host.
I run under W2K and use IIS (internet information services).
(biy in a hurry here, so try this link and google around)
