Default problem uploading large files - 11-29-2004 , 06:43 AM

When I upload large files (over approx 7mb) the ftp goes through but if I don't cancel it right at the end it starts over. This is very annoying. Any advise?

No idea, really.

So, you select a 7MB file, and you put it to the remote site. The FTP
upload progress panel appears, and it completes the upload, and then it
starts the same file uploading again?

That's it. It happens primarily with 20+mb video files.
It uploads, then starts again, there's no error message or anything.

I have never seen it happen, but then again I have never tried uploading
such a large file - the largest I have done is a 4-5MB database. Wanna
point me at one and I'll give it a go?

you can use a separate FTP dedicated program that way it doesnt interrupt
your work.

FTP servers can be configured on different manners sometimes afecting the
way you work. For examples there is sftp which ask for an extra 'account'
variable. There is also Passive and Active FTPs and there is also quotas
on how much can FTP accept on one signal.

Nope - didn't happen for me.

Consider this: when a file is successfully uploaded, the remote timestamp is
imposed on the local file so that that they are now showing the same time.
When you upload a file, if the timestamps are the same, the local file will
not upload. As a result, and given my experience with your file I would
have to say that either you are mistaken or that something else (non-DW) is
happening.

That's an intresting idea about the time stamp. I know that my server uses
pacific time and my computer uses eastern time, maybe that's the problem.

I guess I'll end up using a seperate ftp program, can you recommend one
that's quite basic and free, if I'm going to run another program I don't want
any bells and whistles.

Different time zones would not be a problem, since DW uses the GMT offset
when it needs to. Besides, the actual timestamp is the same, meaning that
when you upload at 10AM, the actual timestamp will show 7AM, i.e., the
server's time.
