Default problem with IE Windows please check (again, but sure this time) - 10-05-2005 , 09:13 PM

Hi all

I have a problem that I already exposed here a few days ago, about a
button not working in IE WindowsXP. But to present the problem in a
simple way, I gave a short-cut link to a page, skipping the several
steps that normally generate that page dynamically, and the problem
disappeared. However, if you follow the normal steps, you will see the
problem.
Please bear with me and follow these several steps:

Using IE on Windows XP, go to:
http://www.momacorporategifts.com/collection.php?page=holiday_cards

click on any holiday card, then click on "Request Quote", then fill-in
the form (all fields required), then "submit Inquiry", then click on
"customize online", and finally click on the last "select" button,
underneath 'Site requires the Flash 6 plug-in or higher'. The button
does not work.

On any other browser, it does work, it is indeed a regular link.
In WindowsXP IE, it does not work, and I have been trying for two days
to get it to work.

If someone can help,...

It works for me. Have you tried clearing your cache?

yes I have cleared my cache, (Tools>internet options>delete temporary
files>delete all offline files) and I have tried on two different PCs,
both with XP. On both, when you mouse over the button the hand cursor
appears, you even see the link in the status bar, but if you actually
click on it, nothing happens.
I have tried repeatedly.
What could be the problem?

thanks for trying one more time! Are you using XP with the last Security
patch?

Why on Earth is this button NOT working on both WindowsXP systems I
tried it on here, but works on yours?
The link is a VERY long url encoded link, could this be somehow blocked
by some security settings on IE?...
Or Firewall?
Norton?

I am baffled.
....I swear the button does not work here, and this is so ambarrassing
because it is my client's PC where it does not work!...

Yes.

Don't really have one - just a router.

Norton?
No AV on this machine.

Why is it not working? I don't have a good idea. I suggest you try to
concoct the minimal example page where you can demonstrate the problem by
taking that page and stripping stuff off of it. Then post it to the
Microsoft IE forum.

So I found out that the problem was in the length of the url encoded link.
IE Windows does not follow a link if the url encoded string of the link
goes beyond a certain length, but does not show any warning, so nothing
happens and the user is just left wondering. (Safari on the other hand,
will accepts much much longer url strings, and will show a popup window
saying that the link is too long, if it is).
I haven't mesured the length limit that IE accepts, but it is shorter
than all other browsers.
