Default Problem in Frames - 11-28-2004 , 05:25 PM

I've created some gallery pages in Frames. The upper, fixed frame, contains all
the buttons for links to other pages. The bottom, rolling frame, contains a
horizontal scroll of the photos in each gallery. When I preview the pages in
the test browser and hit a link in the upper frame, only that part of the page
goes to the new page while the bottom portion stays the same, essentially
splitting the page in two.

Any ideas out there? Greatly appreciated Paul

Use the target attribute to make your links target the bottom frame (it's on
the Property inspector). And you should do this with the frameset open in
DW.

Thanks so muchMurray. Targetting the bottom frame wasn't given as an option in
the Property Inspector's Target Folder, but linking to "Parent" seems to ahve
done the trick. That's one less bug to work out!
Thanks again.
Paul

If you did this with the frameset open, as I recommended, then you would see
the bottom frame's name in the target drop down - or are you trying to link
from a non framed page?

Hey Murray
The only options that were in that Trarget Folder were: _blank, _parent,
_self, _top, mainFrame, and topFrame. I don't know why there wouldn't be a
_bottom option as you mentioned. That said, selecting _parent seems to have
done the job. In this case, I'll gladly take it.

You only have two named frames, and they are both shown there. There is no
such "_bottom" option.

I get it . Mainframe obviously refers to the bottom frame. Is there any reason
to switch the Targets to mainFrame if the _parent target seems to be working?
This is all really new to me so I thank you for your help.

Yes - switch. The fact that _parent is working is a fluke. If you want a
link targeted to a specific frame you should always mention that frame by
name.

Now - dump the frames.... 8)
