Default Problem with display in Explorer - 08-04-2004 , 06:03 PM

Hello all:

I have a page that loads correctly with Firefox and Netscape, but not with IE
(6). The image is Fireworks HTML, and created in Fireworks MX. It displays
fine in pages linked to the main page, but not the main page itself. Any ideas
on what might be causing this? The webpage can be found

I am sorry. On the top of the page the image that displays the university
name and department. Under it is a series of links "about the department" ,
"undergraduate program" etc. This is all part of an image known as
header_and_navbar.gif. In IE it only shows five of the six links, but will
also show the six hotspots. If you click on the link to one of the other
pages, the image displays correctly. I hope that is being clearer.

Thanks.

It shows only five links in ALL pages I view. Take a look at the file it's
calling
(http://casnov1.cas.muohio.edu/politicalscience/header_and_navbar.gif) and
that's all there is....five links. "News" is missing. Any chance you didn't
upload a newer version of that graphic? Or uploaded it to the wrong
directory?

Actually, when I do a page refresh on one of the subpages it will show all six
links. However, that is beside the point. It shows all six fine in Netscape
and Firefox and not in IE. And in IE, if you move your mouse over that space
you will see the hotspots for all six (there is a missing "News" link tthat you
are not seeing). If it were actually a problem with the image on the server,
it should not show up correctly in any of my web browsers right? Hence my
conundrum!

Thanks again.

You're right. But take a look at your code. The image maps are repeated over
and over again. And some of them have differing hotspot placements. Lord
knows which ones IE is looking at vs. Netscape. Methinks if you clean that
up you might not have a problem.

Thanks Murray. Let me ask one more stupid question. If I only have one series
of the <map></map> would that work? I have no idea why there aree so many
series of that map. Thanks again, you were a big help.

I'm not Murray (though I play one on TV), but yes, you should only have one
set of <map></map> for any given image, so if you only have the one on the
page you should only need one. To be smart though I'd definitely save the
existing page under a variant file name, then work on it just in case......

To the Murray's (real and pretend):

I did take out the redudant code. After all of this I still cannot get this
image to work right with IE. I have thrown in the towel and designing a new
image for it.
