Default Problem creating new pages - 11-17-2004 , 04:46 PM

Dreamweaver is generating incorrect image paths when a new page is created.
Instead of all of the locations being something like

"images/buttons/academics2.gif"

They all look like this

"/images/buttons/academics2.gi"

so the files work fine on the local computer, but then won't work whne
uploaded. This problem just occured, so I'm not sure what button or checkbox I
have to change to fix that - it's an automatic change and it's ticking me off

Any suggestions?

Danimal82,

This doesn't happen when the page is created, it happens when you are
inserting your images. In the "Select Image Source" dialog box make sure you
have the "Relative to" selection set to "document" instead of Site Root.

Actually, it IS happening when I create the website. There already exists a
"template" page that I re-save in a new location. Once that page is re-saved in
a different level and/or folder, all of the image paths and URL paths are
changed (and broken) because the "/" appears whereas it previously wasn't there
on the template page in it's original folder

The result of this problem is causing paths that look like this to occur on the
page

http://www.wsu.edu/images/buttons/expersign2.gif

vs the CORRECT path

http://www.wsu.edu/psychology/2005/images/buttons/expersign2.gif

it's because of the "/" that appears when the page is re-saved in a different
location

That could be the issue. You *shouldn't* save the template to another
location.... that's why the links are not correct. Why are you saving the
template (I presume you mean the dwt file and saving as foo.html)?

To keep the paths correct, you should always create a child page from the
template and save as foo.html.
You should also only have your dwt file in the Template folder, nothing
else.
