Default Printing from Dreamweaver? - 11-29-2004 , 12:02 PM

I have a portion of my web site that will be setup to allow printing to an 8
1/2 x 11 piece of paper. However, my boss would like for me to be able to
print the layout as it would look like on the Internet except without all the
Browser Garbage (Adress, page numbers, etc). Can this be done in Dreamweaver
or can it be exported to some other program that will do this? We want this so
that what is on the web site can also be printed and put into a report without
having two different files. Just wondering, KHeinz P.S. This might be a
duplicate posting, I could not find the one I posted earlier. My connection
was cut and I think it did not get posted.

The browser garbage of which you speak is just that, browser garbage. The
headers and footers that get printed on the page are a function of the
browser that is in use. So I think that stuff will always be there unless
your visitors have those functions disabled within their own browsers.

Another option is to make a PDF of the page available for download. That
would take care of the header/footer issue.

Best regards,
Chris

Is there a way that I can take the layout that I did in Dreamweaver to create
the web page and print it and not get that Browser garbage? From what I can
tell I can't print in Dreamweaver, can I? The point I am trying to avoid is
having to create a duplicate page in Microsoft Word as well as Dreamweaver. I
know that Microsoft Word will do web pages, but they seem to be larger and more
troublesome than Dreamweaver. Just wondering, KHeinz

Open the page in the browser, do a screen shot, edit it in
photoshop/fireworks/what have you.

What, exactly, are you trying to accomplish? If it's just content you want
in a report, just cut and paste it from your browser into your Word file.

Printing your webpage is going to be dependent upon the viewers' browser print
settings.

If you have Adobe Acrobat installed, you could print the page directly to a
PDF file and make it downloadable per the previous posters suggstion.

Interestingly, I was just forwarded information on this product:

http://www.meadroid.com/scriptx/index.asp

Potentially pricey little guy, but might provide you with some additional
printing options above and beyond the browser. This is an IE-only solution,
however.

Best regards,
Chris

It really depends if the document has to look like a printed document.
Without control of the margins, headers, etc. there is no guarantee
that the document will be printed on a single page, uncut, with
correct orientation or pagination is going to look right. Here is
another IE solution to see:

Good luck,
John
