Default Practical limit to number of extensions installed? - 11-10-2004 , 09:42 AM

Hi all,

Ran into an interesting dilemma last night after installing a 3rd-party set
of extensions that I'd purchased (no names at the moment). They appear to
be tromping on some of my other 3rd-party purchased extensions. This is
unfortunate because I need several of them for this particular project I'm
working on. Seems as though that when I install the new ones, items in the
server behaviors panel which would normally have fly-out options for each
vendor's extension, are no longer selectable, meaning the arrows that would
indicate there are options no longer appear. And, since this is the only
way to apply these server behaviors, it basically renders them inaccessible.
Uninstalling the extensions restores their usability.

I don't have a major stockpile of extensions, but I do have plenty that I
have purchased that I use regularly. But this one's kinda giving me some
heartburn. So I'm wondering if any of you have run into problems after
installing a larger number of extensions, or if you've had any extensions
that have tromped over your other ones and if you've been able to remedy any
of these situations easily, and if there's any sort of repair utility to
essentially "rebuild" the extension repository.

I will be contacting the vendor for support (especially since it's a pretty
darn expensive extension suite), but wanted to see if any of you have
similar experiences and if you were able to overcome them.

If it's of any interest:

MacOS X 10.3.6
DMX2004 v7.01

Thanks and best regards,
Chris

There is no limit. The only thing you have to be worried about is that some
extension writers (who I will not mention here) will overwrite key
Macromedia files which cause huge problems for other extension writers. When
the system becomes trashed like this, I usually advice deleting all the
local Dreamweaver folders in the Documents and Settings locations and
reinstalling extensions one by one as needed.

Thanks for the advice, Tom. I'll give that a shot and see if it helps :-)

Best regards,
Chris

As luck would have it, wiping out the entire local folders collection and
reinstalling all of my most important extensions, including the ones I
just purchased, things are still mucked up (no pun intended). And you
know what happens when I go to the vendor's site for support?

"xxx.com is currently unavailable due to scheduled maintenance. Please
check back again at a later time."

Oh, the horror...

Time for the ol'
pull-'em-off-one-at-a-time-until-it's-late-in-the-evening-and-you've-had-
no-sleep-so-your-cranky event.

Best regards,
Chris
