Default Is This Possible? Need Your Feedback - 04-19-2006 , 04:14 PM

Hi,
I'm maintaining a general contractor's website and he asked me to add more
features to it. He wants to be able to login (himself or his sales people) with
a user name and password to create a quote based on customer's request and be
able to print/store the quote. I need your opinion to know if this is possible
or not in the way I'll describe it here:
- create a login prompt for user name and password.
- when login successfull, open window browser with a form connected to product
database (for example this will be a bathroom renovation quote, so there will
be checkmarks/radio buttons/drop-down list for taps/bath tubs and so on, with
their respective images and prices and input text boxes for customer data). The
quote should get a reference number (automatically next available assigned
number).
- when the form is filled out, there should be a button to print the quote if
the customer wants it right away and in any case the quote should be saved by
the reference number for later print/edit.
I also need another form that should connect directly to the database to
maintain the prices/records in the database, probably only certain users should
be able to access that screen.
I have all the Macromedia products available, I'm a DevNet subscriber.
I do create/maintain website, but I never created something like this, is this
at all possible?
Thanks,
Joseph

Hi Iosi,

The short answer is yes!

I'm definitely not a genius when it comes to server side stuff. But what
you're describing sounds pretty complexed so why not look for a
commercial or an open source system based on your descriptions... or
outsource the project. Your questions indicates you haven't done much
programming before. So even though you have all the MM products you
still need to be able to manually write php/asp/cf, mysql, access etc.
That was the longer version.
