Default popup menus in templates - 11-01-2005 , 06:19 PM

Hello Experts,
I have been tearing my hair out trying to get popup menus to work. My design
calls for two identical navigation bars -- one below the page header, and one
in the footer.

I am using Dreamweaver Behaviors, and in order to get the popup behavior to
activate (for Navigator 6.0) in the Behaviors Panel, I have had to start with
htm pages, and only save the page as a template after the popups were complete.

The popups in the template work sometimes, but not always. That is to say,
some links work, and others don't, and sometimes a link works, then stops
working. In the pages with the template attached, the popups work only
occasionally. In all cases, when links don't work I get a message that the
linked page cannot be found. How can they be found sometimes, and not other
times? It seems as if the problem may lie in the paths.

In establishing the paths, I navigate to the files graphically, so to avoid
typing errors. And I believe I have been scrupulous in updating the template
attached to pages, not relying on Dreamweaver to do it for me.

Is this problem familiar to anyone, and are there known pitfalls I am
encountering?

I would love to find a reliable way to create popups. I have tried
Dreamweaver and Flash, and both have problems. I am learning Action Scripting,
and am willing to learn to do popups that way, if advised to do so.

I see popups on many sites. My question is what methods do experts use to do
them?

Many thanks in advance for suggestions on the best way to do popups.
Richard

What pop-ups? DW? FW? What?

If the former, then they are not template compatible. How dumb is that?

If the middle choice, if FW<8, then ditto. If FW8, then you may have some
luck.
