Point to file not working -DW4

Need help, no support for Dreamweaver 4 - can't afford to upgrade at this time.
Please help me to figure out this one! My point to file is not working at all ,
the browse to file is not working. Any links I put up do not work. DO YOU
KNOW WHY??

Have you defined your local site in DW?

Have you looked at the code? It should look something like this..

<a href="LinkTarget.htm">Your Link Text</a>

If it doesn't, then something must be hosed in your DW configuration.

The login pages are password protected and I do not have permission to share
it with you. When I "point" to a file within the current file, the Point to
File feature adds the folder to the link location.

I problem is this: Pointing to a pdf file within the same folder, it attaches
the folder name to the pdf file. I go back & delete the folder file from the
path & it reattaches it. When I browse to find the file, it does the same
thing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

I don't remember what this looks like in DW 4, but in the dialog box that
comes up when you browse to make a link, there should be an option near the
bottom of the box for "Make links root relative" or "Make links
document-relative". I believe you have it set to "root-relative", but you
need "document-relative".
