Just the FTP Host, the User ID, and the password. That's all I need.

Please check with the server administrator if you need to use SFTP instead of
FTP, because of document root CHMOD (permissions) and CHOWN (user:group).
Usually some webhosting companies use SFTP and FTP at the same time, but the
permissions are diferent. For example: www.webhostingbuzz.com . Contact the
server administrator, he can give you informations about that. Usually a good
server (apache, php, msql) configuration uses chmod 775 or 755 and SFTP
(usually port 22)

OK - I have no trouble connecting to the site with that information, and I
have no trouble up- and downloading files.

What is the final URI for the site, please? By that, I mean - what would I
browse to in order to see the site?

But nothing would change when you do that upload, other than the fact that all
of the files that were previously there will not have a new file in their midst
with whatever name you gave this file - what did you name it?

Do you see it when you browse to
http://www.sonifenton-scott.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/whateveryounamedthatfile.html?

I called it 'Test Home Page'

I don't quite understand what your saying Murray. I thought if i uploaded
another site, then the previous site would be removed and the new one uploaded?
Maybe i'm being stupid - Would you mind elaborating on this a little for me.

Sorry to sound so thick - but this is a whole new dimension for me!

Thanks Again

Soni

Nope. The files you upload will go up. But the ones that are already there
will stay there.

You named the page "Test home page.htm" which is a bad idea - spaces and
punctuation in file/pathnames is asking for trouble. Nevertheless, go
here -

http://www.sonifenton-scott.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Test%20home%20page.htm

and you will see that your page is there. If you want to get rid of the old
site, just select all of the files on the remote side of things and delete
them.

Thanks Murray - That explains a lot of things, as to why i couldn't change the
original website that i created in FP whilst that was uploaded onto my PWP. I
was expecting that FP site to be overwritten by the new Dreamweaver site, but
obviously the new dreamweaver pages were being uploaded onto my PWP but were
not visible as the FP site pages were taking priority.

However, one more question still exists. How comes when i reset my PWP from
the selfcare section of my ISP, and no website was uploaded, why couldn't i
upload the dreamweaver website? All that existed on my PWP was the standard
Telewest page, and that wasn't being affected by uploading my dreamweaver site?

I feel like resetting my PWP in selfcare of my ISP site again, and showing you
the problem, but what i'm worried about is that my site that i've spent a lot
of time on, may not be able to be uploaded again?

I appreciate your help to date, but would you mind talking me through getting
it back up and running if i can't manage to do it myself?

Soni

There is no priority. It's a simple thing. If you just browse to the
domain without specifying a file name, the server will look for the
'default' file and serve that one. Most hosts use index.htm(l), or
default.htm(l), but some use other filenames as well, such as home.htm(l),
etc.

When you upload a file, if it isn't named one of the default filenames, you
won't see it unless you browse to it by name, as I did in my previous post.

And you cannot have two files with the same name at the same time....

So if i was to re-set my site in Selfcare on my ISP website, and the Telewest
page comes up whenever i visit my site name, and then attempt to upload a site
to my PWP, if the new website hasn't got any pages named 'Index.htm(l)',
'Default.htm(l)' etc., etc., are you saying the files will still be uploaded to
my PWP but i won't be able to see it unless i browse for that particular file?
And therefore all i'll be seeing each time i enter my website name in the
browsr will be the Telewest Title Page?

Also, who is responsible for naming a file/page index.htm(l)/default.htm(l)
etc., is it the user, or does dreamweaver do it automatically? And how do you
know what name your ISP uses? Telewest don't seem to be overly clear on their
requirements - Frontpage must have automaticaly known somehow as i never had a
problem with that program.
