Murray????? Where you gone Murray?

I've found something out really strange. If i upload my old website that i
created in Frontpage, and then attempt to upload my new website from
Dreamweaver, any files in Dreamweaver that are the same name as the file in
Frontpage - for example index, Dreamweaver will overwrite that file on my
PWP????? How strange?? But all the other pages on my PWP that were uploaded
via Frontpage will still be there, that i don't want?

What on earth is going on. I've tried resetting my website in the selfcare
page on my ISP site, it gives various options like resetting site, Add
frontpage server extensions, remove frontpage server extensions, reset
frontpage server extensions, and reset site, i've tried resetting site, and
then uploading from Dreamweaver, but NO files from dreamweaver will upload,
unless Frontpage has uploaded the site, then if i upload a site from
Dreamweaver, any files of the same name of Frontpage, Dreamweaver will
overwrite? What the hell is going on please somebody help me sought this out!!!

If you have a file on your site called foo.html, and you upload another file
called foo.html, it will overwrite the original file. None of the other
files will be touched. Why is that surprising?

Please tell me the contents of the following three fields in the advanced
tab of the Site definition (in DW):

1. FTP Host
2. Host Directory
3. Local Root Folder

Hi Murray!

Right, the information you requested is as follows:-

FTP Host: ftp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk
Host Directory: Is Blank
Local Root Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Soni.YOUR-B0DE1281B7\My
Documents\My Dreamweaver Website\

What is really strange Murray is that i've found that i can alter a website
once its been uploaded via FrontPage. I use the 'get' arrow and all the files
come down into Dreamweaver, then i can either delete them, or alter them as i
need to and then when i press the 'put' arrow it updates my PWP fine!

Its a little strange wouldn't you say?

I don't really understand what you are saying. Can you take another crack
at it?

So - you really just have this one website? And you will manage it only
with DW? Or will FP be in the picture as well?

What happens if you use DW to create a NEW folder on your site - say "test",
then you add "test/" to your Host directory folder, and connect to the site
again? What do you see in the Remote file list?

Hi Murray, sorry if i confused matters, i'll have another crack.

My plans are to only use Dreamweaver, however as you know i'm having problems
getting Dreamweaver to update my PWP.

If i create a site in Frontpage and upload it to my PWP, everything updates
correctly, i can then download the files in Dreamweaver by using the 'get'
arrow, and then i can make whatever changes i want to to the whole site,
deleting pages, modifying pages etc, and it all works fine. However, if i
create a website in Dreamweaver, and use the 'put' arrow, although it seems
like its uploading and goes through all the various files whilst its uploading
to the site, it doesn't actually update my PWP.

I have tried to add a folder to the website i'm using in Dreamweaver (the one
that was originally created using Frontpage), and changed to Remote view, and
the foler is showing there ok.

Thanks for your patience Murray!

Soni

I'll put you out of your misery if you'll email me your connection
information - send it to forums at domain. And make sure you replace
"domain" with great-web-sights.com.

I think what he meant by the domain thing is chop out the HAHA part.
For example, if you click on Murray *TMM* here in the forum, Outlook (or
whatever your default email program is) will pop up with a blank email, and in
the "To:" box it'll say forums (AT) HAHAgreat-web-sights (DOT) com
So if I understand him correctly, he's saying chop out the HAHA part.

Now you understand??
