Your first reply was from Murray a mere 7 minutes after your first post. FYI
Murray is just about the most helpful person on here, certainly in quantity
of posts answered. If you were to supply him with the information he asked
for he would have your problem sorted in a jiffy. If you can't be bothered
to find that info and reply then I hope you have more luck over in that
other forum. Here beginners are treated with respect and courtesy. If you
want instant answers without any effort on your own part then you won't get
much further unless you pay for tuition/techsupport. Murray is (and so are
all the other TMM's), a volunteer so be thankful that they are prepared to
make themselves available. If you want to learn this is the place where you
will get absolutely loads of useful info, free.

Best regards

Hywel Harris

Hi - Please somebody help me - i'm pulling my blinking hair out here!

I've changed over from Front Page to Dreamweaver 2004 MX, and i'm
expierending
problems uploading the webpages i've created onto my ISP PWP. I've
entered all
the correct information in the FTP box within the Manage Sites section,
and
even tested the connection, and it comes back successfull. However, i've
clicked the blue up arrow 'Put Files' and it asks 'are you sure you want
to
put the entire site' i click ok, then it confirms its connected to
'dreamweaver
website' which is the name of my website i've created within Dreamweaver,
however when i check my pwp it hasn't updated?????

I'm pulling my blinking hair out here - somebody please tell me what i'm
doing
wrong, Front Page seemed a lot easier to publish than this Dreamweaver! I
seem
to be wasint so much time trying to perform something so simple, i've read
the
help files and i seem to be doing everything correctly? Any ideas anyone?

Hi - thanks for your responses, i didn't actually see these responses
displayed earlier, don't know quite what happened.

Anyway, in response to your questions, i'll try to answer as best i can, but
i'm a newbie to Dreamweaver so you'll have to bare with me please!

I'm using MX 2004 and the information within the sharing files section of the
Site definition is as follows:-

How do you connect to your remote server? - I've selected FTP
What is the hostname or FTP address of your Web Server? I've entered
ftp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk
What folder on the system do you want to store your files in? I've left this
bit blank as recommended in the wizard.
What is your FTP Login? I've entered the login name i enter when gaining
access to my ISP site - which i know is correct!
What is your FTP Password - I've entered the password for my ISP which again i
know is correct!

As for the files in the Remote View file list of Dreamweaver, there are
absolutely loads, i've tried to use an existing website that is within
Dreamweaver, as i followed the tutorial word for word and therefore decided to
use their demo site (as well as my own may i add).

Some of the files are htdocs, private, themes, vti bin, vti cnf, vti log, vti
pvt, vti txt, images (they are all folders), then for the files - vti imf.html,
about me.html, hphover.class, hphoverx.class, frog_1.jpg, hobies and
interest.htm, homepa1.jpg, homepa2.jpg, homepage.htm - THERE SEEM TO BE LOADS
MORE - IT SEEMS TO HAVE PUT THE ONES FROM MY PERSONAL WEBSITE AND THE ONES FROM
THE BUILT IN WEBPAGE INTO THE SAME AREA - EVEN THOUGH I SAVED THE DEMO FILES
INTO ITS OWN FOLDER ON MY HARD DRIVE AS IT REQUESTED.

I do have a question though - the only thing i didn't understand in the
turorial and didn't do was this:- It said in the tutorial to carryout the
following:-

To connect to a remote site:
1. In your remote site (on the server), create an empty folder inside the web
root folder for the server. Name this new empty folder with the same name as
your local root folder; for example, for the tutorial site, you might name the
remote empty folder GettingStarted to match the name of the local root folder.
2. In Dreamweaver, select Site > Manage Sites.
3. Select a site (such as Trio Motors) and click Edit.
4. Click the Basic tab at the top of the dialog box.
5. You?ve already filled in the first few steps in the Basic tab, when you set
up your local site, so click Next a few times, until the Sharing Files step is
highlighted at the top of the wizard.

I didn't really understand (1)?? As there's no way i can create a folder
within my PWP site of my ISP is there?

If any of you guys manage to help me out - i'll send you a virtual reality
beer by E-Mail!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me either!

OK - this helps. Be aware that there is an Advanced tab on that part of the
Site Definition Panel - had you gone there, you would see the exact fields I
requested.

OK - and when you click on the Test button, does it connect? If not, then
try making this field read -

www.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk, and try the Test button again. Let us know what
happens, please.

This tells me three things -

1) the site has been managed (or created) with FrontPage (it's the _vti
folders that give that away)
2) your files have been uploaded to the wrong folder
3) the correct folder is htdocs, and so you should answer this question -

Quote:
What folder on the system do you want to store your files in?
with "htdocs/"

Ignore this - it is wrong. Which DW are you using? And tell me again where
you see that?

So that will be between 3 and 3.30am, when the various Murrarys change
shifts then!

There is a school of thought which postulates that Murray couldn't possibly
be just one person, as he answers so many of the posts...

Regards,

Pete.

Frontpage easier than DW? I don't think so. I've used both, and man, DW is
sweet!!!

But as far as your question goes, I think Murray probably most likely knows
more than me so I'll let him handle it.

Thanks guys for all your help here - much appreciated!!

Right, firstly, the connection test button works if i enter
www.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk or ftp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

Which should i use?

Secondly, the files i listed earlier that you say are Frontpage files, your
probably right there - as to make sure the connection was working, i tried
using the get arrow as well as the put arrow, and it withdrew all the files
from my website that i created in Frontpage. So, i've tried another site in
dreamweaver (my own one that i tried to create), and it has the following files
under the 'Files' tab:- Site - My Personal Website (C:\Documents and
Settings\....................................
av.htm
button1.swf
button2.swf
homepage.htm
JeanFrenette.htm
Karate.htm
Stretching.htm

They are all the files under the route directory of 'My Personal Website'.

I've tried also uploading the above route folder to the net, and it still
doesn't seem to update my PWP.

As for the incorrect instructions i.e.,

To connect to a remote site:
In your remote site (on the server), create an empty folder inside the web
root folder for the server. Name this new empty folder with the same name as
your local root folder; for example, for the tutorial site, you might name the
remote empty folder GettingStarted to match the name of the local root folder.
In Dreamweaver, select Site > Manage Sites.
Select a site (such as Trio Motors) and click Edit.
Click the Basic tab at the top of the dialog box.
You?ve already filled in the first few steps in the Basic tab, when you set up
your local site, so click Next a few times, until the Sharing Files step is
highlighted at the top of the wizard.

I'm using MX 2004 and the above instructions are within the 'Quick Site
Set-up' Help Files located within 'Define a Remote Folder' of the 'Define a
Dreamweaver Site' in the 'Getting Started & Tutorials' section of the Help
Menu??????????

I hope you guys can help me sought this out, as i really like the look and
style of Dreamweaver, it seems to look a lot more professional than Frontpage,
as i like the choice and looks of the buttons bits and pieces.

P.S. Just for the record, i just tried to upload my own website as i listed
above, with all the files, and it said something along the lines of '***** file
is more up to date on the remote server do you still want to overwrite?' I
said yes, and it sounds and looks like its actually doing something but it
still isn't changing my PWP????
