Pictures don't show up in preview

I've got Dreamweaver CS3. When I open one of my files none of the pictures show
up in the preview. The site root is set to document relative and the checkmark
preview with temp files is active, too. I don't know what else I could do ...

That's how the code looks:
<img src="macbeth.jpg" border="1"> As you can see it's document relative.
Online it works absolutelly fine, it's just in Dreamweaver, where I cannot see
the picture.
With GoLive CS2 it worked as well.

Are the page and the image at the same level within the local root folder?

I have the same problem, the files are in the same folder:

test.html
image1.bmp

for example, the html has the head/body and bla blah blah as a normal
html standard (no relevant info or anything, just file->new->html
document), in the <body> I inserted: <img src="image1.bmp"/>
I open the file using any internet explorer, mozilla, or safari and it
displays fine.
The thing is, I need to do a <map> with poligons and I can't calculate
accurately without the image showing in the preview.

the preview in dreamweaver CS3 displays a gray icon of a "broken"
image, what could be wrong?
