Default photo editing (newbie) - 06-25-2004 , 07:36 PM

hey, i'm a newbie to dreamweaver....
i have an imac 8.6....dreamweaver 3.

the tutor clearly says,"

Using an external image editor

You can open a selected image in an external image editor directly
from Dreamweaver. When you return to Dreamweaver after saving an image
file, any changes you made to the image are visible in the Document
window. "

however no matter which external editor I use (photoshop or
imagefolio),
this ain't happening....i either get the original unedited image or
an image icon.

any thoughts?

clark

first, make sure all images you use are in your site folder.

Then it should work, but you'll still have to click on the little
refresh icon next to the sizes boxes of your images in the properties panel.

Then, when prviewing in your browser, don't forget to refresh your
browser, several times if necessary, if not the browser will just keep
showing you the old version.
For background images, you might have to empty your browser cache, as a
simple refresh won't work.

still didn't work,
i 'll choose -edit- with photoshop or imagefolio and crop the picture
in the program
save it, and quit. but when i get back to DW no update...same old
original image.
i'm wondering if it's an export issue or a plug in issue.
i might have to somehow plug in photo shop into DW.... i'll have to
review how plug ins work.

i already set imagefolio and photoshop in my DW preferences for image
editor...so it's not that.

i'm saving the images as untitled 1, untitled 2, etc... i wonder if
that matters?

The roundtriping with graphics is FWs only I believe.
(I could be wrong as I don't use PS - but have no problems doing this using
FWs).

You can use your other image software to edit, but you would need to
re-export.

no you don't. I use Photoshop as my editing image software for Dreamweaver.
You set this in Dreamweaver preferences.
It updates my images in real time in dreamweaver design view, except it
deosn't update the new size if i change the size. Hence the clicking in
the little refresh icon next to image size in properties panel.
If this doesn't work on your system, I don't know what's going on.

problem solved.

i was trying to edit images with Presto! Imagefolio or Adobe
PhotoDeluxe 1.1. that doesn't work because those 2 don't support PNG
files.
Photoshop does.... it works in Photoshop (i had mistaken PhotoDeluxe
for Photoshop earlier).

DW only recognizes PNG images.
you have to have an editor that uses png.
