Default paypal newbie - 04-06-2004 , 01:09 PM

just got an account with paypal. Want to offer a few items for sale on my
site and have a couple of questions.

Should I use the shared ssl on my host for the page or does it not matter?
Does anyone who wants to use the paypal have to have an account?
I ask this because I wanted to buy something from DMXzone and had to create
a paypal account to continue.

martin,

the great thing about pay pal is that they take all the responsiblilty for
security.
dinna worry bout ssl - let pay pal earn their money.

yes, anyone using paypal has to have a paypal account.

Most peopel who are comfortable wiht purchasing things over the net already
have a paypal account.

there is a DW plugin just for pay pal commerce from webassist

using it at http://www.mmjbskins.com/

successfully for about a year now.

I haven't used paypal for any transactions (as a business person), but I
have bought with it. The users will need to set up a Paypay account to be
able to send you $$ via paypal.

Not sure about the SSL, but I think that the more secure you can make it the
better off you'll be.

Just to clarify this point, I believe that PayPal (in the states only at the
moment) no longer requires the payer to have an account before they can make
payment.
A feature soon to be rolled out everywhere else, hopefully!

actually, now both US and Intl buyers of US-based sellers do no
have to create a PayPal account to complete their transactions.

we also hope to roll this out to non-US-based sellers and all o
their buyers before the end of the year.

Yes, you have to love that. Without a verified PayPal account the seller
isn't covered by PayPals seller protection. Meaning it is now even easier
for buyers to shaft the seller. You have to love a company that puts all of
these protection policies in place and then turns around and fixes it so
that no one is protected by them except the buyer.

My advice is not to accept any payments from anyone that doesn't have a
verified PayPal account and then make sure whatever you send is sent insured
and with online tracking. Plain tracking isn't good enough if their is a
claim filed and PayPals people can't access the tracking online then you
will loose the claim.

PayPal is the perfect companies to do business with if you like getting
screwed. Second only to eBay.
