Default password protect functionality - 07-06-2004 , 12:00 PM

I need to add a password protect to the page that will allow a user to access
a "password protected page"...any ideas on how to verify and then allow a user
into a password protected page?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

You can either use the .htaccess file on your webserver (Apache, or at
least it should be) or failing that you need to implement a Session
system.

You can do this in Perl/PHP/C/C++ or any other language of your choice
but it is complicated issue if you are only a HTMLer.

Cheers,
Tom

bump

please don't use "bump"

please say what type of serverside scripting you want for this /asp/php/??/
- and what kind of server /apache/windows/

and- putting the two posts together, Would it be easier/better to use a
pre-written members file upload/download script, or image gallery script?

About
PHPPageProtect is a user authentication system used to password protect
selected pages.
Pages are protected by adding a single line of PHP script at the top of the
page.
A web-based administration section allows for the creation of new users,
deleting users, changing passwords and viewing logs.
User information and logs are stored in a flatfile (text) database.

comes with instructions so simple my granny could follow them

i don't search any "pages"

myself and many many of the people who give replies use a newsreader for the
NNTP newsgroup version. Much faster.

News Server: forums.macromedia.com
"no authentication" when setting up in news reader.

If you can use php-
If it's an Apache server and can use php,

From an older msg:

This free script will give you an admin page to create Users who can access
this directory. It creates .htaccess and .htpasswd files in the FOLDER you
put the script in.

Just download version 1.5, pick the windows or unix version, and edit the
file as described in the instructions to change the admin username/password.
Upload the file into the directory you want to password protect (the photo
album folder). Give it a filename of setpass.php or anything.php
Chmod (set file permissions) on that directory to 777.
view the new file in a browser. Login so you are at the Admin page.
Create a new User.
Send you friends the username/password.

(note- If the site has a Hosting Control Panel or CPanel, there is probably
a very similar function for password protecting and creating Users and
Groups buried in it. But this script may be easier to use and understand)

current version is 1.05

They don't get buried for those who supply the answers. Most of us (all of
us?) are using NNTP newsreaders to access the forums, and so we don't have
this paging problem.
