Default Password Help! - 11-19-2003 , 01:31 PM

I am a very new developer who is developing a site for the school I teach at. I have the page all set-up, but I need to password protect it. It can be VERY VERY basic, and does not need to be extremely secure. Really all it needs is to have a single password, not even individual users. I've searched for tutorials and stuff on-line, and I just don't understand the stuff. Is there a very simple way to do it? The company that hosts the site does not have a protection option.
I am willing to try and set up the .htaccess file, etc. but I have no clue how to use scripts and the things I read online are somewhat intimidating. Could anyone walk me through it or point me to an appropriate resource?

Thanks so much,
Seth

Seth,

Check with your host. It's pretty common that they have this already and
all you need t do is to tick a few checkboxes.

If not, go to www.hotscripts.com and look for some simple password
protection scripts. Since you're not looking for the Forth Know-variety,
I think a javascript would be sufficient.

As a proponent of PHP, I suggest finding a free login script to download from
hotscripts.com. I'm sure you could find a very basic login there. Your server
would have to support PHP though.
