Default password authentication in HTML - 11-28-2007 , 03:10 PM

I just got off the phone with the Dreamweaver tech support, who told me that
the reason I can't click the "plus" button in the server behavior panel (which
I want to do because I want to make one page of our website available only to
the people who know the password) is that I'm doing it on an HTML page instead
of a dynamic page. She advised me to look online for "javascript codes for
password authentication in HTML." But I'm not finding anything. I tried
creating a dynamic page, but the "plus" button still stayed gray, so obviously
I'm missing something.
1. Does someone have such a javascript code?
2. More to the point, is there a simple and direct way for me to create a
password form that gets authenticated so that only people with the password can
get onto a particular page?
Thank you.

could you put the page in a separate directory and then set up a password
for just that directory using your hosts control panel (or get you host to
password protect that folder)?

Google ".htaccess password", provided that you're hosted on a
linux/apache server.

Julia
There is also a small java app available called GateKeeper, this script will
allow you to create a password protedted page, it uses the page name as the
password.
It works well an is simple to use.
