Default page associated with wrong folder - 07-11-2004 , 05:35 PM

I have made a page from a template but for some reason it is associated with
the wrong folder.
So any changes that I make to the template are not being reflected in the
new page that I made.
I can see where the new page is associated to but I can not change it in the
html because its greyed out.
Is there a way to change this rather than having to build the page again.

I get the error when I try to update from the template "can not find the
file.....etc"

Thanks

There is no url, i have just started building it.
At the top of the new page in html veiw it says
c:/desktop/new/Templates/temp.dwt.
But the actual Template is in c:/desktop/new2/Templates/temp.dwt.

It will not let me change the new page in html veiw because its made from
the template.

I've seen where you later confirm that new2 is defined as this site's Local
Folder.

You can change it with Find and Replace.

Open a child page, and copy exactly what that line says.
Then close that file and all others of that site.

Find: in source- sitewide
c:/desktop/new2/Templates/temp.dwt
{use exactly what it is in your files}

Replace with:
/Templates/temp.dwt

off topic- but i'm confused by that hard drive path you gave.
Is it a folder at the root level on C that's named desktop??
On most windows systems i've been forced to delve into, the user's desktop
folder is within the windows folder on 98 types, or within Documents and
Settings/username on xp if i recall correctly. If you've created a folder
yourself named "desktop" it's somewhat possible that it's a reserved word in
the filesystem or may cause some oddness that's difficult to track down. It
would be kind of like creating a folder named "windows" someplace. It may
not cause any problems at all, but it makes me nervous- i'm a belt and
suspenders kind of guy.

did you use Find and Replace...
with the documents NOT open.

use "Replace ALL" button in Find and Replace so it changes them without
opening the files.

Tried that but it does not change it, the words are greyed out and I can not
change them either manualy
or with find and replcae.
Thanks

It doesn't matter that the words are grayed out- The Documents Should Not
Open, so you won't SEE it grayed out....

find and replace, in code, REPLACE ALL instead of REPLACE.

replace opens the doc's one at time and won't work for this.

regardless- if you can't get the instructions to work- pop the files open in
a text editor and change the line.
