Default Other NNTP groups? - 04-04-2009 , 04:59 PM

I've got project seven's groups, but they do not seem all that active.
This one is still more active.

What other ones are people using?

I think they are going to get alot more active soon...

But a search of this forum, particularly the last few days should get you a
few more names..

A few are posted above .. unfortunately there are not a whole lot of NNTP groups anymore. Someone told these exec types that "NNTP was outdated" but forgot the fact that NNTP is faster .. NNTP is more efficient .. NNTP is used by most of those who answer the questions ... go figure.

However .. it's 4/4 and it appears to still be working, so here goes nothing.

The really sad thing is that the new Adobe forums do have an NNTP gateway and could be used with an NNTP server .. but they are choosing to ignore the capability for some reason.

Clearly it's because "user feedback" has indicated that avatars, a rich
editing interface, a points system and profiles and photos of forum members
are more important than high quality questions and answers.

I'm running into the same type of logic with a site I'm working on.
The owner wants lots of "really cool" images and almost no text content
("reading is boring"...yes, note the quotes.)
Though I've tried to explain that the bells and whistles aren't as important
as being found by Search Engines, it's just not getting through........

:-)

Take care,
Tim

The busiest, pviiwebdev, gets about 24 messages a day. That's
comparable to news://forums.cubiclemind.com/webdevbiz

True, by an order of magnitude.[1] But consider the signal:noise
ratio...

PVII (5 groups), cubiclemind (as above), and just starting to look in

news://support.cartweaver.com

There's one for each server language, ASP, PHP and ColdFusion. While these
mostly focus on Cartweaver and ecommerce, there are many well know
developers that hang out there and are willing to help and share
information.

Also take a look at

news://forums.mredesign.com

Michael has a great group here and I highly recommend stopping by.

Mourning the passing of Adobe NNTP :-(

I'm screwed on mredesign. I'm lurking through nearly 3 years of posts
in the .wth group and I can't quit.

But I'm having some good laughs!

For newsreaders that display them, I've been using one or more
"avatars" (X-Face) off and on for some years. 159 bytes for this one.
