Default OT: What browsers does NS5 encompass? - 07-10-2003 , 02:15 PM

Hello all,

I know it sound weird asking about Netscape 5, but my WebTrends reports are
logging NS5 browsers. There aren't many, but I'm curious as to what may
have identified itself as such.

WebTrends also identifies a large number of "Other Netscape Compatible"
browsers. Any thoughts on what those could be? Given that this is a site
for our corporate retirees, I'm betting it's mostly AOL browsers or
something along that line given AOL isn't listed in the stats.

Best regards,
Chris

others will likely have a more complete answer... but as I understand things
from Eric Meyer, whatever version of AOL a user has, they have that version
of Internet Explorer...

Unless they have the latest Mac version, which is Mozilla based. Also note
that AOL users can use a different browser if they wish to.

Also note that AOL is at version 8...there isn't a Netscape or IE version
at
that number yet. ;o)

'Netscape Compatible' just means the browser is using that in it's ID
string.

IIRC, 'Netscape 5' is how early versions of NN6 introduced themselves.

Almost certainly a search engine spider, same thing mostly applies to
apparent Netscape 2 visits.

cheers
