I guess I'm too much of a realist to fool myself into seeing it that way. To
me it's no different than telling a salaried employee to save up so they can
pay themselves when they go on vacation rather than the company paying them.
Of course it if makes you feel better to look at it that way, go for it!

Where are you? I'm in San Francisco where summer doesn't arrive until
October......for a few weeks if we're lucky.

Well, summer is here in the northern hemisphere. I'm sure that has a
bit to do with it...

Hmm, summer? Here? I guess the summer is on a wednesday this year ...

Well, the difference is that one person is salaried.

Compare it to teachers. They can get paid more per month for 9 months, or
less per month for 12 months.

I look at freelancing like the 9 month option. Make sure you get paid enough
while you are working to cover the time you aren't.

In an 'ideal' world, you can keep enough in the bank as a freelancer to give
yourself a weekly salary, so you can actually become a 'salaried'
freelancer. That doesn't always quite work out, of course.

Again, though, like you say, we're just looking at the same thing
differently. ;o)

I wondered why I'd been missing all the "I'm a n00b - HELP!!!!" and "HOW DO

Speaking of which - there seem to be a whole bunch of frames-related

article about a r3a11y |<3w1 way to make webpages?

Yes, JD and I blogged this yesterday:
http://www.markme.com/sfegette/

IIRC there were problems with the database server, so while it's being
addressed the web forums (the one app that generates the most traffic
out of all of them) had to be brought down on production to make sure
the other apps (online store, membership, etc.) had plenty of headroom.
The web team is working pretty hard at it as we speak (and has been for
a while now), but I haven't heard an ETA for a relaunch just yet.

Keep posted, of course...

Scott:

Here I am. It took me all week on the beach to think up new and compelling
reasons why people shouldn't use Layout mode or pop-up menus.
Unfortunately, I forgot them all on the flight back <sigh>.
