Default OT: Statistics needed - 08-23-2004 , 02:25 AM

Hi all
Can anyone help us out with the following questions?
1. What is the average load time for a web page (not the desired time but
the average)?
2. How many web pages are there on the Internet, including the ones Google
doesn't search?

Thanks
Bruce

whatever the total file size of the page and linked files files are, at that
viewers connection speed.

this is a simple math question. But- define ~average~.
We can give you the numbers k per second at various connections, so you can
crank the times.

how far do you want to dig? what is a ~page~ ?
How do you find things that aren't left about to be found?

What's the real question the boss or client asked that you have to come up
with a reply to?

I don't think you'll find a definitive answer to this because the question's
too broad and vague to be useful.
What is the real question behind this question?

Again you won't get a definitive answer. What is a "web page"? You're
probably thinking about static pages created offline and uploaded.

But if I perform a query on a remote database e.g. price of airline tickets,
I will get a bunch of HTML code wrapped around the results of the output of
ASP/CF etc script which has queried the database. This comes to me as a web
page in my browser. If I perform 10 such queries, I get 10 different results
in the same "page".

You also have the added factors of multimedia (Flash movies etc), web
applications, RSS feeds etc.

Perhaps we're beyond counting how big the internet is?

Impossible to answer. There are some awful web sites out there and a lot of
folks on very slow connections.

1,928,492,493,309

But that's just a guess.

Ha! Thanks guys...

I'm writing a promotional blurb for my new business cards, and I wanted to
use some of these (general) stats on it.

Is there an online source of this sort of trivia?

Thanks,

Bruce
