Default OT: Locking filees/folder on Win XP - 07-06-2004 , 07:30 AM

I'm working at a client's office 3-4 hours per day, using a PC with Win
XP and DW 6.1.
I also use Thunderbird there to hook up to my mail server.
Since I don't want unauthorized people to access sites files and e-mail
account, I set everything up everyday when I arrive, and delete when I
leave.
I'm a Mac user really, and wonder if there's any way that I can lock or
protect stuff in Win XP *without needing to create a new user account*?

Dan:

I don't know of any way to do that.

With the above stipulation, no. If you DO set up a new user, then it
would be automatic.

assuming the owner of the machine has an Admin password and you don't- not a
lot.

what you could do if it's any time savings, is look into a Zip or Stuffit
archive utility that offers Password protected archives. Then you'd Zip the
files into a password protected archive, delete the originals, then expand
them on your return. But it's probably as easy to do what you are
currently- back them up and delete them off that machine.

password protected Zip files aren't perfect, they can be opened with brute
force. There are gizmos that will try every possible combination on them and
will eventually open them up.

Not a lot.
If you work at various sites all the time then you can use:
celldisk - if you don't have a lot of data or files
USB drive - gigabytes available to you.
