Default OT: index.php - 11-29-2004 , 12:32 PM

Hi all

Does anyone know for sure if some search engines ignore pages that have
the .php extension?

As I use PHP a lot and the hosting service I use for most of my sites
supports PHP ONLY in pages with the .php extension, I tend to give all
my pages the .php extension.

I was told by a back-end guy that some search engines don't index .php
pages.

Is there any truth to this. I know Google indexes php pages.
Please advise

Well, there are hundrends--if not thousands of different search engines out
there. I'm sure there may be a few that for whatever reason, ignore PHP
files.

But the major ones all index them just fine.

Again, some search engines may only index .monkeybutt files, so, while he's
technically correct, in terms of general knowlege and advice, he's way off
the mark.

It's safe to say most search engines will gladly index your PHP files.

He is probably talking about a search directory in India or something.

Any search engine that omitted .php pages would not be worth using.
There are WAY too many .php pages on the net for that true for any
search engine worth using.

Filenames don't matter. An URL is an URL.
