It all went well and so far not a problem in sight It take some time
though.

OK. I read somewhere that the update made windows load and shut down
faster, had better security and improved network something... but
perhaps not

Permanent reboots on some AMD machines and a screwed-up registry on
machines with Norton Security were just two of the known problems.

Then there were various smaller issues, some of which you probably won't
notice in the English version. But in localized versions it's confusing
if one application calls a folder on disk "Users", the other one shows
the same folder as "Benutzer" - nothing special, it's just the German
translation. But because it's that inconsistent, it's totally useless
and just confusing. You never know what goes on behind the scenes and
what Vista really does with your data in the back.

Just announced: Intel won't be upgrading to vista either.

According to the New York Times, Intel has decided that it won't
upgrade the PCs of its 80,000 computers to Windows Vista. The Times
reports:

the company made its decision after a lengthy analysis by its internal
technology staff of the costs and potential benefits of moving to
Windows Vista, which has drawn fire from many customers as a buggy,
bloated program that requires costly hardware upgrades to run
smoothly.

Happy downgrading...

I guess this thread is irrelevant now that Microsoft stopped selling/
supporting XP on June 30, 2008.

They say you can BUY a new computer with vista & the downgrade - so it
"wont cost anything to upgrade to vista when you're ready" (whatever
that means).
