For long term viability, I just hope it gains a greater user base than the
enthusiastic developer community.

Better software is not always widely adopted even if there are a thousand
reasons that it should be
:-)

Time will tell.

I'm sure Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer are watching with interest.

Sadly, they need to fix up the extensions. E.g. "web developer" and
other aren't compatible, at least not for Mac.
So, if that's important, wait a while to install....

Web Developer has a version available that's compatible, though I don't know
if it's for Mac also.

I had varying success with an install-over; in addition to DOM inspector,
I only have 3 extensions:
- Web Developer
- Link Toolbar
- Allow Right Click

On both boxes I did the upgrade (Win2K, XP Pro), the Allow Right Click
reported compatibility problems. On the XP Pro box, Web developer
reported problems. I uninstalled them, then reinstalled; as far as I
know, all extensions are working fine.

I just installed the Web Developer 0.8 extension into the new Firefox
1.0. It works. I got it at:

The instructions about how to bring extensions forward and how to
uninstall existing ones are extremely technical and cryptic (and, I
suspect, don't deal with the Macintosh at all.) So I just deleted the
application and everything in .../Library/Application Support/Firefox
and installed the new version of FF. I then downloaded and installed the
only extension--web developer--that I use.

Correction:

When I had installed FF and started it for the first time, I got an
alert telling me that the extensions I used, e.g. "web developer",
weren't compatible. It asked me if I wanted the app to look for more
recent versions, and I said "yes". When it had been digging around the
Internet for about ten minutes without any result - good or bad - I
canceled the search and launched the browser.

I simply took for granted that the extensions shouldn't work.

However, after using FF for a few minutes, I noticed that I *had* "web
developer", and that it was working as before.
