Default Opening WORD from IE - 08-19-2006 , 02:46 AM

I have been given a rather complicated form in Word.doc format to put on a
website with the request that it open in Word as a printable document. Simply
"putting" it as a Word.doc and linking to it does not force Word to open and I
end up with gobbel-di-gook. If I try saving it as a webpage I lose much of its
layout features, and will not open Word anyway.
(This website is viewed in IE, and accasionally in Firefox)
How's it done, please?
Steve

Convert the word document to pdf format - there are loads of free pdf
creators out there on the other side of Google.

If it was left as a word document, you are assuming that all users of the
website have word installed on their computers - not the case. Many more
have acrobat readers, though.

Pete.

Thanks for the answer, Pete. I'll get myself a converter.
However, I know who my users will be in this case, that they all have Word,
and they won't all have Acrobat, and that they're likely to feel themselves to
be too busy to acquire it. (We're talking Doctors in General Practice here)

Can Word be forced to open and display the form for printing?
If so, how's it done?

Steve

The form will open in a Word-clone in the browser (IE). It will retain much
of the functionality of Word, and can be filled in and printed.

You cannot force the document to open in the Word application.
