Not retaining changes

I'm using a trail version of DW8 and when I get that lovely error message "You
have made changes to code that is not marked as editable. If you retain those
changes, they will be lost the next time you apply a template update to this
file. Do you want to retain the changes until then?" and i click YES, it asks a
second time and I click YES again and then it discards my chages. First, why is
it discarding changes when I said YES, RETAIN THEM? Secondly, I can't even
delete a line break tag in an editable region without that message popping up.
I've been using DW6 for a long time and not had these problems. Please help!

Check your PREFERENCES | Code format category - do you have the override
case of attributes and tags enabled? If so, please disable them. Does that
help?

I do not (and did not) have them enabled in DW8. I reverted back to DW6 to be able to work on the project.
