Not responding error using Dreamweaver FTP

I've been attempting to upload my local files today onto the remote site. Its worked other days, but today and the last couple of days I've been able to start the transfer and in the middle of transfering web pages the transfer freezes and when I ctl+alt+del get the "Program not Responding" message. I've tried uploading 3 different sites and none are working. Any ideas out there? If you need more info let me know.

Have you tried checking the passive ftp checkbox in the remote site
definition?
